Can You Modify A Business Car Contract Hire UK Vehicle?

As a company who deal with business car contract hire UK, we often hear a lot of misconceptions about car leasing. One of the most common misconceptions is around modification, as many people believe that you can’t modify lease cars in any way, shape or form. So, we are going to take a closer look at car modification and lease cars, for those of you who are thinking about it or are new to leasing and want to know what’s what.

Can you modify a lease vehicle?

It’s not a straightforward yes or no answer – surprise, surprise. The best thing to do if you are considering modifying a vehicle is to talk to one of our best car leasing Cheshire advisers for clarification.

What type of modifications are there?

There are quite a few modifications you can make on a car, including:

  • Alloy Wheels. Many car specifications include alloy wheels, but some customers want to use their own customer alloy wheels. As long as the size and shape of the wheel is exactly the same as what is on there already it shouldn’t be a problem, but if you want to put larger wheels on then your finance or insurance company may have a problem with it.
  • Dash Camera. If you are placing your dash camera on your windscreen then this is usually OK as won’t cause damage, however if you wish to mount it on your dashboard then you will need to talk to your finance and insurance company first.
  • Privacy Glass. Privacy glass can usually be added to a lease car before delivery as long as it is agreed with the funder, and it is usually cheaper to take it as an option rather than having it wrapped or a completely new window.
  • Remapping. This is a generally straightforward process which improves economy and performance and which can usually be easily reversed as long as it is completed by a professional.
  • Roof Box. Roof boxes are generally acceptable on lease cars as long as they are removed before the lease car is handed back, and they have left no marks.
  • Tow Bar. This generally can’t be completed after delivery of the lease car as installation can cause damage or leave marks behind.
  • Wrapping. Vehicle wrapping is quite a common request when it comes to lease cars, especially business lease cars where people want them to be branded for their business.

As you can see, there are a wide variety of options when it comes to modifying your lease car, and the best thing to do is to discuss it with us before you sign on the dotted line.
